Common Signs of a Faulty Fuel Pump

When a fuel pump fails, it doesn't necessarily stop you vehicle from running, but it will begin to cause poor fuel economy and engine stalls. This is because the pump's motor may only weaken or the pump's filters may gradually become clogged.

The first sign of a weakening fuel pump will often happen when your engine is running high at RPMs on the freeway. If the engine runs fine when idling or when driving on surface streets but sputters and stalls when you're on the freeway, the fuel pump is a likely culprit. Another sign is a gradual loss of gas mileage.
